The Arboretum has been very busy so far this year. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new visitor center is still scheduled for Apr 26.The additional and wider parking spaces will be very appreciated.Last year BCA did not hold an annual fundraiser event, due to the construction, but this year will make up for it.Please mark June 15th on your calendar and be sure to register early. It should be an event to remember.
There has been a lot of work at BCA already this year, and BCAHS has been very involved. The recent tree work, work on the beech hedge, and the copper gutter and leader work on the house were paid for by BCAHS.More projects are being scheduled and BCAHS will help wherever we can. We all like knowing (and seeing) where our efforts have been applied.Check the BCAHS website for more details (https://www.bcahortsociety.org/).
The Fiftieth Anniversary dinner at Snapper Inn is only two weeks away, now is the time to make reservations. The cost is a very reasonable $25 for members and $50 for guests. It’s hard to imagine that BCAHS and BCA have been working together for 50 years.Let’s hope for 50 more!
The Annual BCAHS plant sale will be on the weekend of June 1and 2 this year.BCAHS volunteers are already busy making plans and ordering plants.Volunteers will be needed to help set-up and price plants the week before the sale. If you can offer your help, please contactDoreen doreenmn88@gmail.com and Lin slschlyer@optonline.net
Attendance seems to grow every year, so please tell your friends and be sure to stop by early to pick up some great values on interesting plants while helping to support BCA. As always we will have many plants and trees from BCA grounds.

2024 PLANT SALE UPDATE
This year’s plant sale will be June 1 & 2 from 9 AM – 4 PM in the Lower Carriage House. We will be offering perennials, annuals, herbs, vegetables, natives, small shrubs and trees. This year, we are going to offer houseplants for the first time!
As a reminder, if you’d like to donate plants, they must be in good potting mix, free of pests and not invasive. Label them with the name, but do not put a price. Perennials can be dropped off any time before the sale to the left of the overhang of the LCH. You’ll see pots there already.
If you have any gardening-related magazines, books or catalogs that can be offered free to the public, bring them during the week before the sale when we are setting up.
Volunteers will be needed to help set-up and price plants the week before the sale. Table setup will be Tuesday, May 28. Deliveries are expected Wednesday and Thursday. We will also need many hands to help out on the weekend doing everything from answering questions, traffic control and taking money. More information will follow. But if you’ve done this in the past, are familiar with the assignments and can offer your help again, please let us know!
Finally, help spread the word by circulating thePlant Sale Flyer. Drop off at local establishments and share electronically.

ALDER - THE TRAILBLAZERMARCH 18 - APRIL 14 Alder signs are a natural-born pathfinder. You are a mover, a shaker, and will blaze trails with your fiery passion which will cause you to gain loyal followers. Alder signs are charming, gregarious and mingle easily with a broad mix of personalities. In other words, you get along with everybody and everybody loves to hang around with you. This might be because Alders are easily confident and have a strong self-faith. This self-assurances is infectious and other people recognize this quality instantly. Alder signs are very focused and dislike wasting time. They are motivated by action and results. Alders pair well with Hawthorn, Oak and even Birch signs. | WILLOW - THE OBSERVERAPRIL 15 - MAY 12 Willows are highly creative, intuitive and intelligent. You have a keen understanding of cycles and inherently know that every situation has a season. This gives you a realistic perspective of things and causes you to be more patient than most tree signs. Your intelligence comes with a natural ability to retain knowledge and you often impress your company with the ability to expound on subjects from memory. Willow signs are bursting with potential, but have a tendency to hold themselves back out of fear. Your powers of perception will ultimately allow your true nature to shine, and will lead you to success in life. Willows pair well with Birch and Ivy. |
